WSHIMA Health Information Advocacy
The WSHIMA Legislative and Advocacy Committee under the direction of the WSHIMA Advocacy Director, will strive to keep WSHIMA members informed of the legislative changes regarding the nation and Washington State that impact health information policies. WSHIMA’s commitment to advocating for health information policies in Washington will align with AHIMA’s mission to advance and advocate for the creation and use of trusted information across the evolving health continuum. In furtherance of this mission WSHIMA has identified as a strategic goal, advocating for state and national policies that impact health information governing policies across the information lifecycle.
The WSHIMA Legislative and Advocacy Committee plays a vital role in WSHIMA’s advocacy agenda. The Legislative and Advocacy Committee monitors both state and federal legislation and informs the Board of any activities affecting health information management. The Advocacy Committee works with the Board of Directors, providing input and additional feedback to legislators regarding legislation.
AHIMA Health Information Advocacy
WSHIMA is committed to advocating for health information policies in Washington State. WSHIMA will work in consort with AHIMA to advocate on initiatives on health information concerns and legislation at the national level by AHIMA. WSHIMA expects members to familiarize themselves with AHIMA’s advocacy agenda and legislative priorities.
AHIMA’s educational videos will assist members in developing the necessary skills needed to advocate for the health information profession. Leading members of AHIMA’s policy and government affairs will provide opportunities for members to learn about why advocacy matters, further their understanding of the regulatory process, learn how to conduct meetings with elected congressional members, leverage social media for advocacy and provide members with opportunities to become involved in advocacy at AHIMA.
