WSHIMA Board Member on AHIMA Ballot

June 13, 2024

Hello WSHIMA Members,

I am writing to you today to urge you to vote for me for one of the three Board of Director Positions for AHIMA. I take this opportunity seriously because I care about the future of or profession. Moreover, our profession is going through a tremendous change. Automation and AI are transforming tasks that have traditionally been performed by HI professionals.

I believe that HI professionals have a future in this new world but it will require continuous learning, adaptability, and embracing technological advancements to meet the evolving healthcare system. In addition, the AHIMA BOD must do more in the recognition of our profession. Health information is driving change in its own right and we are at the center of that information. Most of us can agree that the health information profession has a distinctive and much-needed knowledge and skill set. However, most people have no clue what our profession does in the healthcare arena.

It is time for Health Information Professionals and AHIMA to stand up and speak out about the importance of our profession to the healthcare industry in general. We know our profession and we should not allow others to define us, that is our job. The time has come for the HI profession as custodians of health information to formally reclaim leadership, or at least a place at the table from the beginning on health information and analytics. This is our house.

Please take a few moments to view my video and review my flyer.

I respectfully ask for your vote.
